Situated on the North Sea coast, Arbroath is a former royal burgh and the largest town in Angus, Scotland. This town, with its long sandy beaches and stunning sandstone cliffs, is thought to be the setting for Walter Scott’s novel The Antiquary (1816), the third of the Waverley novels and Scott’s personal favourite of the series.
