Glen Shiel, a glen in the Northwest Highlands of Scotland which runs approximately 9 miles from south-east to north-east, features in Scott’s 1817 novel Rob Roy. Within the story the eponymous Rob Roy is badly wounded at the Battle of Glen Shiel in 1719.
