The events of Sir Walter Scott’s novel, The Fair Maid of Perth, also known as St. Valentines Day (1828), one of most successful of his later novels, was set in and around historic Perth. The novel includes a fictionalised account of the remarkable Battle of the North Inch, which took place on land that is now the North Inch park.
